I will use a simpler example to explain.
I have forgotten my password to my hurray! account. I know it is either pretty123, gorgeous123 or enchanting123. I have two tries to get it right. So i type in "pretty123" but it is wrong. I am prompted to key in the password again. Which password should I key in now? HOw many choices have I left?
So the probability of me being successful in my 2nd try is
P(successful in 2nd try) = P(fail 1st try, successful 2nd try) = (1/3)(1/2) = 1/6
